Identity Theft Can Happen to Anyone - How it...
I have had debit card numbers and checkbooks stolen on several occasions in the past. Each time it was a different scheme. I am not sure how it happened the first time. This was way back in the 1990's. I could have inadvertently become a victim if a Phishing scheme, which was a new phenomenon at that time. I found out when my wife got a call from a large financial institution stating that someone with a Middle Eastern accent was trying to wire money from my account. That was a head's up move on the part of that employee. No money was transferred or stolen thanks to their alertness, but I still had to cancel the accounts and cards and get new ones. Also had my credit reports secured and[..]

How is Identity Theft Accomplished? - 6 Areas...
Identity theft (or "identity fraud" as it is also known) is accomplished when a thief obtains sufficient personal details about you, to be able to impersonate you in some way. This "impersonation" is commonly limited to using your name and other private information to obtain financial gain. There are, however, more sinister forms of identity theft which involve a fraudster assuming a victim's entire identity. In these cases the identity thief might obtain a driver's license and passport as well as opening bank accounts etc in the name of the victim. If the fraudster decides to leave the country and live abroad under a different name, the chances of catching him are so remote as to be[..]

However, just like any type of service it is often more efficient to leave identity theft protection up to the professionals. If you were to decide to go with a professional service there are a number of benefits that would be included. You can get alerts whenever something has been added to your credit or if someone has looked[..]

Not many people realize that the easiest victims of identity theft are actually children since their names are rarely monitored, until they reach the age when they can apply for a loan or a credit card. If a credit issuer requires proof of identification, you should also know that faking identification cards is easy, and many clerks are not trained to recognize a fake ID. At credit[..]

Must You Sign Your Credit Card?
ds like a no-brainer. You receive your credit card in the mail, along with a note that tells you, among other things, to sign the back of your credit card immediately. Lately, people have seriously questioned this course of action, pointing out that if your card is stolen, a thief then has a perfect copy of your signature to duplicate. Instead, say many, in the space for your signature on a credit card, you should write 'Ask for Photo I.D.' It sounds like good advice. But what do the experts have to say? According to all three major credit card companies - Visa, Master Card and American Express, the answer is - sign your credit card immediately. In fact, all of them have rules that[..]
Older people may be victims of frauds like con games and insurance, home repair, telephone, or internet scams. You aren’t being impolite. You are taking care of yourself! Remember, you can say no to any offer. Don’t give any personal information, including your credit card number or bank account, over the phone unless you were the one who made the call. Thinking Ahead Can Save You Time And Money
Early in December, I logged onto my business checking account to verify my current balance, before paying some bills. The low balance surprised me, so I began to review the recent transactions - and to my surprise, found four cash withdrawals from an ATM in St. Petersburg Russia! Perpetrators had made a duplicate of my checkcard and used it (with my pin, presumably) to withdraw hundreds of dollars. Bank of America returned the funds into my account that evening, pending its investigation, so I was able to pay my bills. But, if I had not checked my account, it could have been emptied (and I may have bounced checks) without my knowledge. Are You Liable for Fraudulent Transactions? You may[..]
Will Congress and the FTC Ever Go After Banks?
Guess what. The stock market is down again over 300 points. The cause seems to be credit worries. In consumer talk, that means the banks in this country are over their credit limits and it won't be long before they start to squeal about the government bailing them out. Bail out? What? No $32 over limit fees? No instant report to the credit bureaus that the bank is in trouble and their credit score should drop to high risk? No deal that all of the other banks can now be charged $32 because one of them stepped in it? No American institution has slipped it to the American consumer and the American taxpayer more than than the good 'ole boys in banking and their good 'ole friends in[..]

Even though a lot of people seem to be using credit cards exclusively for incidental purchases these days, the truth is checks are still a preferred method of payment for a lot of people. It doesn't make sense not to accept checks, since most people will expect to have that option, but there are certainly some things to worry about when you do accept checks. There's always the danger that someone has stolen the checks from their rightful owner or that they just don't have the money to pay for what they're writing the check for. There will always be some risk involved in accepting checks, but these days technology makes your life a little easier with an invention known as a check reader.[..]
Dynamics of Addiction and Recovery - Loss of...
Alcohol and other drug (AOD) addiction is a disease that is manifested by compulsive consumption of alcohol and/or other drugs. Addiction involves a loss of control. As with any other chronic disease, relapse is a common feature. Many people erroneously believe that for someone's drinking or using to be considered "addiction", it must involve loss of control each time a person drinks alcohol or consumes other drugs. This is not necessarily the case. Every time an alcoholic drinks he does not necessarily drink to black out or drunkenness. This inconsistent loss of control often fuels "denial" in AOD addicts who use complete loss of control as criteria for defining addiction. The reality[..]
How to Overcome Procrastination - Using the Law...
"Procrastination is opportunity's assassin." ~ Victor Kiam, American businessman, Remington Electric Razors (1926-2001) "Oh, how I wish I could overcome procrastination! Somebody please help me stop procrastinating! But not today, I'm busy." Procrastination is a double-edged habit. It deserves our attention as well as our appreciation. The guilt we feel indicates that our procrastination serves as the destroyer of dreams. However, when inspired by our connection to our values it also serves as the protector against wasted energy and futile activities. Regardless of the type of procrastination, it's important to forgive yourself for doing the best you could do, given who you are and what[..]
It's my hope this article will help you survive in the coming months. I am convinced we are headed toward a financial Armageddon in the United States, a total collapse of our currency. You won't hear this from the mainstream media or the government because they know that the more you believe in our currency, the longer it will remain stable. But your blind faith could cost you in horrendous ways. I recently ran across one of the best explanations I've seen from John Williams with Shadow Stats. Williams has been a consulting economist for 25 years. In my condensed version, here are his reasonings why a financial Armageddon looms: Background: Less is More The less there is of something,[..]
I have been told that many, many long years ago the unions were the "bosses" and the mafia and the mobs controlled the unions. We all know that from our history lessons. Whether true or not, that was the perception at that time. The longshoremen's union controlled the docks and the dockworkers and the Teamsters controlled the truckers and so on and so forth. You paid your union dues or you didn't work. And if you didn't pay your debts to the mobs that were always willing to lend money you ended up with broken bones or maybe a pair of cement overshoes and a final resting place in the harbor. At least that is what movies were made of. Elliot Ness being famous at that time. And there was[..]
